An inductive sensor with NPN configuration, NO (Normally Open) is a sensor that detects metal objects without physical contact. At rest (when no object is present), the sensor contacts are open and there is no output signal. When an object enters the detection zone, the NPN output transistor shorts to ground and a signal is output.

Key features:

  • NPN: Indicates that the output transistor is connected to ground and the load is connected between the sensor output and the positive power supply. When the sensor is triggered, current flows from the power supply through the load to ground via the transistor.

  • NO (Normally Open): In the normal state, the output contacts are open. When the sensor detects an object, the contacts close and a signal is sent to the load.

Application:

  • Used in automation systems, for counting objects on conveyors, in access control systems, and other applications where detection of metal objects is required.

Connecting the sensor to the power source and load:

One load terminal is connected to the power source, and the other to the sensor output. When an object enters the trigger zone, the NPN transistor closes and current begins to flow through the load.

  • Brown wire - connects to the positive pole of the power source (+V).
  • Blue wire - to the negative pole of the power supply (0V or ground).
  • Black wire - to the load, which is connected to the positive pole of the power source.
